Cathy Riordan Full – April 4, 2019

Last Friday night I returned from the most amazing trip. Two of my grandchildren traveled to Europe over spring break to perform with the St Charles High School orchestras in Salzburg, Austria, and Prague in the Czech Republic. I joined my daughter and son-in-law, Amy and Bill in a parallel trip, not with the orchestra. We were able to tour those cities as well as Munich, Germany and attend their concerts which were extraordinarily beautiful. The venue in Salzburg had been changed at the last minute which meant we had to modify our plan for reaching the site. Originally it had been scheduled near our hotel. The location was moved to a small hall high in the Alps outside Salzburg. Bill rented a BMW (very common there) for the day, and got us their via the autobahn and a winding narrow road in the mountains as the snow fell. Pretty soon the hills were alive with the sound of music. For me it was my first trip to Europe and the trip of a lifetime, so much beauty, history and unbelievable architecture. To attend my grandchildren’s concert performances there topped it all.
