Rose Cushing Dondero – September 27, 2017

We survived Irma.

Luckily, we didn’t have any real damage just a couple of slots in the fence that blew down which my son-in-law fixed.  I’m sure everyone has seen the damage on TV.  We’ve been in Florida since 1972 and never had a mandatory evacuation order where we live until Irma.  Our area doesn’t flood but streets leading into our subdivision do so we really had no choice.  When they first said it was going to hit the west coast, we went to our daughter, Christy’s, in Spring Hill, Florida which is about 30 miles inland.  We felt secure until Irma changed course and came up the spine of the state.  We still weren’t in an evacuation zone in Spring Hill.  Other than the horrible wind and bands of rain the worst for us was the loss of  power for 9 days at our house.  Being without power for 9 days in 90 degree plus temp and humidity is no picnic but we survived.   We felt that if a couple of slots in the fence needed fixing and the loss of food was the only thing that happened,  we were very fortunate.  Many in our area lost their home and everything they had worked for during their life time.

There is so much going on right now, it’s really great news that you’re safe. It is a blessing that your lose was so minor.
